Soderfors Anvil

Below are a few pictures of my 110 pound Soderfors anvil, made in Sweden around 1923. The anvil is made of cast steel and still retains a decent ring and good rebound. While the face is sound and flat, the far edge and step have some chipping. I've considered using a handheld belt sander to put a smooth radius on the far edge. The near edge is nearly perfect, but I'd love for the far edge to be more workable than it is now. My only concern is doing more harm than good.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to attempt a repair, and any advice you might have is appreciated. You can reach me via email at marcus@punchboard.com.
